FWM modeling and impairments optimized amplifiers placement methodology for link design

In this paper a new FWM model and a methodology of optimum way of placements of amplifier over a link is presented. The FWM model is compared with the results of a simulator and has novelty that it works even for unequal inter amplifier separations on direct substitution of parameters. For the metropolitan area networks with regenerators placed at every node, a new methodology of amplifier placements has been developed to optimize the performance in presence of FWM and ASE Noise. The methodology has developed upon comparative analysis of new purposed scheme IUFS (increasing unequal fiber section scheme) with widely accepted method i.e. EFS (equal fiber section scheme) also known as equal amplifiers placements. A comprehensive analysis generalizing effect of allied system parameters and role of input channel power on optimum values of IASEP (inter amplifier separation) is discussed throughout the work that unveil dependency of allied system parameters on optimum IASEP. The summary of the analyzed results is presented in form of an algorithm at the end that searches for optimum way for offline scheme to maximize system performance. The novelty of the work conducted is that for a set of system parameters it reveals a critical system point before which the purposed scheme works better.
