Encouraging Students to Pursue STEM: Sharma teaching kids problem-solving skills [WIE from Around the World]

Dr. Jyoti Sharma, a wireless engineer who works for Nokia in the Research and Development Department and as an adjunct professor who has taught at Farleigh Dickenson University, in Teaneck, New Jersey and Drexel University in Philadelphia, is currently chair of the IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) North Jersey Section Affinity Group. Prior to earning her Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the Delhi Institute of Technology in India, Sharma says she was interested in science and math since middle school. Even though engineering was primarily male dominated, she says she received support from her parents and teachers and was given many opportunities through the IEEE to pursue a career in the field. As an IEEE Student Member, she recalls, "I got to travel the world, attend conferences, present papers, and network with industrial professionals. It's been a great journey."
