A comparison between two-axis and 3D finite element theory for AC side excited machines

Two methods for the calculation of load conditions in AC side excited homopolar machines are compared. First a 3D finite element technique is used directly, secondly the finite element method is used to calculate axis reactances for use in the two-axis method. The work is validated by experimental results.
