Status of military adaptation of commercial automotive diagnostics program

The U.S. Army has initiated an evaluation of com mercial automotive diagnostic test equipment. The evaluation program Is being conducted to ac complish both tank-automotive product assurance and maintenance objectives. Two government owned Autosense' @"* diagnostic systems have been modi fled to Include full diesel engine and electrical system test capability. The units have also been modified to include a cassette tape write feature to aid in data analysis. Diagnostic test capa bility has been provided for the following mili tary vehicle/engine combinations: M113A] Armored Personnel Carrier/Detroit Diesel 6V-53, M551 Armored Reconnaissance/Airborne Assault Vehicle/ Detroit Diesel 6V-53T, and M809 5-Ton Truck/ Cummins NHC-250. Ten of each vehicle types have been fitted with test interface hardware. These vehicles are part of a field evaluation of the diagnostic equipment at Fort Knox, Kentucky.
