Roadblocks to UCD Integration

With new technologies and a plethora of products in the market, there has been a continuous shift in the User requirements. User Experience has become a driving factor in governing the success or failure of the product. Even established products that are not ready to adapt to the new perspective of a good user experience (Ux), stand to lose market share, whereas their competitors that can provide a simpler product with enhanced user experience would stand to significantly gain. Product development teams therefore need to consider Ux based design integral to their process to be able to keep up with the customer-base along with the other functional requirements. Despite the increased significance of Ux in a majority of products, the associated considerations still do not figure integrally as part of the product conceptualization and development. This paper tries to identify the roadblocks for adopting user centered design (UCD) and summarize them. The catalogue of the issues can then be identified and removed to allow better integration of UCD in the software engineering process.
