Using the technology readiness levels to support technology management in the special funds for marine renewable energy

TRLs for marine renewable energy projects provide a valuable metric tool of technology readiness and deliver useful guidance for the development process. This paper discusses a brief overview of the current TRLs research and the importance of TRLs for the assessment of the techno-economic performance, assesses the state of the practice of other TRL users, and discusses the development of TRLs specific to marine renewable energy technologies. This paper discusses the feasibility of developing a TRL tool that enables the SFPMRE Manager to assess the maturity of new marine renewable energy technologies in China, identifies it is feasible for TRLs to support or improve NOTC's decision-making process in selecting new marine renewable energy technologies for SFMRE investment. The author hopes that this paper will provide a contribution to improving marine renewable energy technology development processes towards delivering higher levels and performance technology outcomes.
