Turbomachinery Advances Made Possible By Active Magnetic Bearings

Over the past few years applications of magnetic bearings to both rotory and linear equipment have been on the increase. The majority of these applications are using magnetic bearings in pre-existing machinery designs. While this type of design retrofit yields benefits to the user, substantially greater advances are possible by developing machines around the capabilities of the magnetic bearing rather than the limitations of conventional bearings.
