Recent rapid advancements in nanotechnology have enabled precision medicine to be realized through the modification of functional nanoparticles to carry therapeutic cargos while concentrated in lesion sites via surface conjugation of targeting moieties. Moreover, the endogenous properties of the particles to produce contrast of current or novel imaging modalities allow the integration of diagnostic imaging and therapeutics in one regimen to benefit clinical disease management [1], [2]. Gold nanoparticles (GNPs) have long been investigated for their potential biomedical applications because of their biocompatibility and well-characterized surface chemistry for various functional modifications.
