Magnetron Driven 'Q' Switched Cavity For Microwave Pulse Generation

An S Band microwave, laser triggered Q switched cavity operating at 100Hz prf is described. The input source is a commercial S Band magnetron giving 2MW at 2us pulse length. The maximum gain of the system has been observed as 40 and has yielded a peak power output of 40MW with a risetime of 2ns ad a duration of 12ns. Effects of input and output cavity Q and the use of Sulphur Hexafluoride (SF6) and other gases filling the cavity are discussed along with the possibility of multiple output cavities.
