Symmetry breaking in condensed phases: the interaction-induced optical Kerr response of liquid CCl/sub 4/

We investigate in detail the intermolecular spectrum of CCl/sub 4/. It is demonstrated that, in addition to the 200 fs relaxation that previously had been identified with a collision-induced intensity, the intermolecular dynamics of this liquid exhibit a 1.9 ps exponential decay, and also evidence for a third, intermediate-timescale relaxation.
