Power electronics I [Session summary]

The modern switching converter/regulator is the major tool of the power conversion specialist and certainly symbolizes the power electronics field. Each of the papers to be presented in this first session deals with switching regulators in some fashion. The hardware world of switching regulators/converters is somewhat artificially partitioned into the transistor based regulators and converters and the thyristor inverter and converter groups. There has been much discussion in recent years on the subject of switching regulator topology which has emphasized the single-ended "regulator" con verter.
