Activation analysis for the ITER shielding blanket design

Neutronics and activation analyses were completed for a two-dimensional model of the ITER shielding blanket design. Segmentation of the blanket component into 17 modules was considered. Nuclear heating rates during operation and due to decay of induced radioactivity after the basic performance phase of operation were obtained. The neutronics calculation shows that a total of 1730 MW nuclear heating is deposited in the major components, giving a blanket energy multiplication of 1.44, of which, about 288 MW is deposited in the first wall (1 cm Be+2 cm Cu-alloy and SS316 structure), 1345 MW in the blanket, 2.12 MW in the vacuum vessel, 92 MW in the divertor, and 9 kW in the TB magnet. The total integrated decay heat values over all components for the 1.5 GW ITER are 36 MW at shutdown, and it drops to 30 MW at 5 min, 21 MW at 30 min, 18 MW at 1 h, 3 MW at 1 d, and 0.88 MW at 1 month after shutdown.
