Effect of microwave irradiation of low intensity and magnetic fields on the Ca2+ contents in pea root cells

The changes in the Ca
²⁺
contents in of pea root hair cells after microwave irradiation and magnetic field exposure were investigated. The microwaves of frequency 36.6 GHz and 100 μW/cm
²
intensity were produced by a generator designed and produced at the department of Theoretic Radio physics of the Kharkov National University. Roots also were processed by static magnetic field of 25 mT induction. The Ca
²⁺
content was determined by the fluo-3 staining in roots hair cells. The microwaves (5 and 10 min exposure) induced the significant increase in the Ca
²⁺
contents in cell nucleus. The magnetic field (1, 5 and 10 min exposure) not induced the increase of calcium content in cell nucleus. The regulatory role of the intranuclear increase of Ca
²⁺
in cell response to electromagnetic and magnetic fields is discussed.
