Intense ion beam source development experiments

Characteristics of several magnetically insulated ion diodes are presented. Included are results for anode plasma density and turn on rate, beam quality, and microwave and x-ray emission characteristics as a function of diode parameters. By the use of nonhydrocarbon anode materials, 25–50 A/cm
²
Li, B, C, Na, and Ba beams have been produced.
