Japan's information network system

In the information society of the twenty-first century, as Japan sees it, communications will encompass telephone, television, data, and other systems. The system Japan is planning, called the Information Network System (INS), will be all digital, a blend of computer and telecommunications technologies. Using several transmission media-copper wire, optical-fiber cable, satellites, and radio - the system will tie telephones; data, facsimile, and video terminals; switching systems; and computers into one network, digitally carrying not only the human voice, but also data and still and moving picture.
