The `green wave' rolls on [computerised road traffic control]

Central computer control is helping the Federal Republic of Germany manage its street and highway vehicular traffic, which has been increasing in volume over the past two decades. Constrained by narrow city streets and squares (many of historical interest) that were incompatible with modern traffic systems, German traffic engineers were forced early to utilize available traffic surfaces to best advantage - mainly by refinements in existing traffic-control systems.
