Electronic watchdogs for calls and copies

Recently, an insurance carrier discovered that an ingenious clerk was "capturing" an outbound WATS line each morning and using it as a surrogate babysitter for her young children. Her oldest child was trained to answer the telephone and then mount it in a nearby Speakerphone. The clerk would listen on the line for a second or so at frequent intervals throughout the day. If the children were fighting, an armistice was imposed by a whisper, amplified to a thunderous command by the Speakerphone. As soon as the children settled down, she would put the WATS line back on hold.
