Transverse oscillations of intense long-pulsed electron beam in extended drift channel

The results of investigations of electron beam dynamics (300 keV, 1–30 A, 100µs) in drift tube (L= 25 m, d = 0,1 m, p ∼ 10
⁻⁵
Torr, atmosphere, Xe) with periodical magnetic focusing system (PMFS) are submitted. It was found, that the exceeding of definite threshold current depending on kind of residual gas, leads to the origin of transverse oscillational-rotational displacements of the beam with frequency about hundreds of kHz and amplitude arising along the drift tube. These processes are accompanied by retardation of duration of beam space charge neutralization processes 10–100 times.
