Control room modernization from the Swedish regulatory perspective

Most Swedish nuclear power plants are modernizing the instrumentation and control systems (I&C systems) including the control room. They have taken a proactive top-down approach starting the programs with analysis and decisions on the requirements and implementation strategy controlling the future single projects of the programs. The Inspectorate has been involved from an early stage and asked for evidence on project management and human factors issues such as integration of end-user experience and human factors into the design process including plans for verification and validation. The reviews are supplemented with seminars with the utilities to promote understanding and increased knowledge on specific human factors topics.
