Professional skills and industrial training for engineers

It is suggested that young engineers would be far more productively employed if their personal skills and general engineering knowledge were sufficiently developed to enable management to put a more focused and qualified effort into the planning of their early employment activities. The content of a number of university courses that address this issue is outlined, and some guidelines are given for the setting up of worthwhile and demanding tasks that should form part of an engineer's induction training, both before and after graduation.
