What will be the impact of ultrafast science and technology in the real world?

In this paper we discuss the general requirements for ultrafast optical power supplies. Further, we assume that such sources will eventually become available, and discuss what kind of novel applications are being suggested today. We comment on which ones are likely to make it to the "real-world", and have an impact.
