Military perspective-EMC measurements

During the 1980s audits were carried out between various test houses to ensure measurements gave equivalent results. The results however were unrepeatable and a case was proposed to fund appropriate research to provide both traceability and calibration for military radiated emission measurements. As a minimum repeatable results between the test houses was a requirement. To address these problems, Defence Electrical Standardisation Committee (DELSC) L8 through its working group L8/3 sponsored measurement investigations into the veracity of radiated emission measurements within screened enclosures. The aim being to produce amendments to Defence Standard 59-41 such that: radiated emission calibration and measurement procedures in screened enclosures economically reduced the uncertainty of measurement to within /spl plusmn/6 dB in voltage terms; and traceability to a national field strength standard.
