The role of vortices in the magnetization process of small dimension permalloy films

A micromagnetic model has been developed for small dimensional permalloy films, such as those being considered for high density recording. The results show that variations in the magnetization occur through the formation of vortices which give rise to Barkhausen noise in the transfer curve.
