Application of mental model using tutors and critics

One of the purposes of this paper is to compare two types of computer-based training and knowledge-based critiquing strategies and to identify which strategy better supports the subjects's performances in reasoning tasks. The statistical and logical domain have proposed that training users using statistical and logical approaches would improve one's reasoning procedures. Similarly, the mental model approach claims that if people are cognitively aware of the categories of events and how they are linked with each other, people will make better inferences in everyday reasoning tasks. This research verified both claims using two reasoning tasks in two domains. Most importantly, this research found significant results in the uses of interactive critics and tutors in making decisions.
