A power efficient 60 GHz 90nm CMOS OOK receiver with an on-chip antenna

A low power 60-GHz on-off-keying (OOK) receiver is implemented in a commercial 90nm RF CMOS process. The receiver includes on-chip antenna, LNA, 60GHz detector and limiting amplifier, all implemented differentially. The receiver achieves BER of 4.7×10

for data rate of 1.2Gbps at a transmitting distance of 10cm and consumes power of 42 mW. Higher energy efficiency of 28pj/bit can be achieved at the expense of higher BER(<10

). The total die area is 3.8 mm
²
inclusive of the on-chip antenna.
