Effect of local variations of width and orientation of a corridor on the propagation of high frequency waves

The propagation of high frequency waves inside a corridor can be modelled by ray theory. Walls behaves as reflected planes with dimensions much greater than the wavelength. These planes are limited in space creating diffracted effects which are very significant for many configurations and which can be taken into account owing to the uniform theory of diffraction. We examine only configurations which often occur in building architectures. The first is a local narrowing of the cross section of the corridor, which simulates the presence of obstacles or cupboards in the corridor. The other is a succession of corridors linked by two different transitions. A particular type of transition exhibits the influence of polarization. Furthermore, we show that a good agreement is obtained between experimental and modelled configurations.
