Optimization of the geometry of closed rotor slots for cage induction motors

The paper describes the use of a formal optimization procedure to determine the design of a rotor slot to obtain maximum efficiency. The method involves the use of an equivalent circuit model coupled to a finite-element field model to calculate machine performance. Typical results are given for a 37 kW 4-pole motor designed for three particular applications, and for a 150 kW 2-pole general-purpose motor.
