The inverse problem solution for infinite regions using the impedence tomography technique

A new method of solving inverse problems for infinite regions is presented. The impedance tomography technique is used in order to find the solution-the conductivity distribution inside the region under consideration. The inverse problem solution is usually time consuming. Significant reduction of calculation time was achieved in this paper due to: (1) the hybrid finite element method (infinite elements significantly reduce the number of state equations), (2) symbolic calculation of matrices for finite and infinite elements, and (3) the adjoint variable method of sensitivity analysis. Using computer simulation the new method presented was tested. The method proved to be an efficient noninvasive technique for condition monitoring of a copper mine gallery.
