Frequency dependence of the piezomagnetic strain coefficient

The frequency dependence of the piezomagnetic strain coefficient (g/sub 33/) has been investigated through Plane Wave Model characterisation of a Terfenol-D sample. It is found to have a frequency dependence of 1//spl radic//spl omega/ with a corresponding frequency dependent loss term. It is proposed that this frequency dependence in g/sub 33/ is a consequence of the mechanical defects in the material which affect the magnetic properties of the material through the magnetomechanical coupling k/sub 33/.
