Throughput and delay characteristics of ARQ transport protocols over LEO and GEO satellite networks

We first extend the performance analysis of existing point-to-point automatic repeat Request (ARQ) protocols to M-node end-to-end users. The M-node end-to-end users are considered as one virtual circuit (VC) to derive the throughput and delay characteristics using the Norton equivalent queuing model. The analysis is applied to ARQ transport protocols with geostationary orbit (GEO) and low Earth orbit (LEG) satellite communication links. The optimal end-to-end window size is identified for better throughput and low end-to-end delay for go-back-N (GBN) and selective repeat (SR) ARQ schemes at the OSI transport layer over LEO and GEO satellite links.<
