A novel zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) boost converter by using a nonlinear magnetizing inductor of the transformer

A technique using a nonlinear magnetizing inductor of the transformer is proposed to achieve zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) operation. ZVS and proper transformer core reset can be realized from the resonance that exists between the parasitic capacitance and the magnetizing inductance of the transformer. DC bias current applied to the transformer makes it operate in the nonlinear region of the B-H characteristic curve to make ZVS possible. It is shown that all switches can operate at ZVS or ZCS with minimum voltage and current stresses. Steady-state analysis is presented to illustrate the principle of operation. A 125 kHz, 100 watts ZVS clamp-mode isolated boost power converter is implemented to verify the proposed scheme.<
