Prototyping the access of handheld device clients to a distributed service infrastructure

A prototype of application components, which enable the interaction of a handheld device client through a proxy with a market middleware and application services, is described. The architecture proposes a proxy as intermediary between client and given service infrastructure. A client (handheld device) issues a number of related consecutive requests for an application execution to a service intermediary (proxy). Then, several interactions between the proxy and the middleware and the application service are carried out until the client's request is finally executed. We show by the implementation of a case study a way of integration handheld devices into a complex service infrastructure which offers WSRF-based application services. Interestingly, for the integration of the heterogeneous client we require adapting only the proxy component of the service providing infrastructure.
