Load Management From A Power System Oprator's Perspective

Minnkota Power Cooperative, Inc. has a decade of load management experience. Today, fully 37% (220 MW) of our potential system peak demand (600 M) is interruptible. Substantial amounts of interruptible load complicate the energy accounting procedures required in the System Control Center before-the- fact (seasonal planning), during (hourly scheduling), and after-the-fact (historical data). Standarized terminology and a definitive load model are required for satisfactory results. Another important tool is a means of quantifying interruptible capability at all times.
