Thermo-Mechanical Failure of Distribution Cables Subjected to Emergency Loading

This paper describes the temperature rise of XLPE cables in a duct bank following the application of an emergency load, the cable failures observed at conductor temperatures below 130' C, the mode and cause of failure and the attempts to simulate this failure in the laboratory.
