Optical Properties of Eu/sup 3+/:Y/sub 2/SiO/sub 5/ crystal

The spectra of Eu
³⁺
-doped Y

crystal were detected. The Judd-Ofelt intensity parameters Omega
₂
, Omega
₄
and Omega
₆
were calculated according to the absorption spectra, and were equal to 4.36 times 10
^-20
cm
²
, 0.74 times 10
^-20
cm
²
and 1.074 times 10
^-20
cm
²
, respectively. Persistent spectral hole burning (PSHB) were also observed at the temperature of 4.2K in the crystal. For 15mW dye laser (wavelength: 579.62nm ) burning the crystal immerged in liquid helium for 1 second a spectral hole with about 10MHz hole width were detected and the hole can keep for larger than 24 hours
