Intrinsic Average Power Limitation of Coaxial Transmission Line for UHF-TV Five Megawatt Operation

The power handling capability of coaxial transmission line is intrinsically limited by the onset of the TE 1,1 waveguide mode. An expression is developed for this limitation as a function of operating frequency, and ramifications are examined for UHF-TV operation at the maximum licensure E R P of 5 Megawatts.
