Operator interface for a multi-sensor target acquisition system

An advanced multi-sensor, air-to-ground, tactical target acquisition system concept was explored during flight demonstration. The sensors were a millimeter wavelength radar, a forward-looking infrared set, and a laser line scanner. The radar was supported by an automatic target cuer subsystem. A sensor management subsystem served to automate the mission planning, sensor scheduling and pointing tasks. Six trained and experienced radar navigators served as subject matter experts. Six demonstration flights were conducted against camouflaged and open tactical vehicle targets. Crew workload, system performance, and the operator interface were assessed.<
