A comparison of ambiguity surface performance and multiple access capacity for PSK and FH spread spectrum waveforms

Examines auto- and cross-ambiguity surface performance of phase shift keyed (PSK) and frequency hopped (FH) waveforms in the presence of Doppler shifted received signals. A review of the design of various wideband signal coding techniques such as pseudo-noise (PN) and frequency hopped transmission for use in radar and communication systems is presented. Wideband coding of pulsed radar signals is used for protection against intentional interference. Alternatively the technique can be used to provide individual radars with a multiple access capability for simultaneous operation in a given frequency band. In radar, and also in mobile communication it is necessary to study the ambiguity surface to evaluate the performance under various Doppler frequency returns.<
