Application of system modeling to the development of complex systems

Two examples of system modeling are discussed. The first highlights work performed to develop tools and methods which will allow rapid prototyping of flight deck communication concepts. This example deals with modeling functionality which is either new or substantially enhanced and for which little or no requirement foundation exists. The second highlights a commercially available software product which is currently being used to evaluate dynamic response characteristics of a new system design in advance of hardware/software availability. This example deals with the problem of demonstrating compliance with requirements which may be difficult or impractical to analyze manually or test explicitly. It is pointed out that, combined, requirements modeling and design modeling can help system architects to produce systems which are less costly to develop, test, and maintain.<
