Definition of flight crew interface requirements for the electronic library system

Work done to find an acceptable location on the flight deck for the Pilot's Access Terminal (PAT) for the Electronic Library System (ELS) is reported. Five candidate locations were identified: on the console, outboard on the overhead, at the extremes of the instrument panel, on the yoke, and below the clear view window. The first locations were examined in some detail using the McDonnell Douglas Corporation's Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) system. The approach taken to evaluate the candidate locations is described, together with the advantages and disadvantages of each location evaluated. An alternative to the content of the hard copy of the Jeppesen chart is discussed. Additional required research is outlined.<
