An approach to adaptive mesh refinement for three-dimensional eddy-current computations

Two kinds of error estimators are proposed for adaptive mesh refinement for 3D eddy-current problems. One is based on the principle of Ligurian and the other is based on the numerical discontinuity of the field results. The Ligurian estimators have been established from the complex vector field quantities and can be electric or magnetic. The duality between H and E formulations is reflected in the estimators based on the discontinuity of the field results. An edge-division technique and a 'local Laplace' algorithm have been used in the mesh refinement implementation. A comparison between the different error estimators has been given through numerical examples.<
