Ultra low-frequency dielectric properties of poly(vinylidene fluoride) in high fields

The dielectric properties of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) films stressed in a near-breakdown field from 10/sup -1/ Hz to 10/sup -5/ Hz have been measured, using a picoammeter connected to a microcomputer. Nonlinear dielectric behavior in PVDF films in the frequency range below 10/sup -2/ Hz is observed. The experimental results are compared with the results obtained by Hamon's method. The nonlinear dielectric behavior is explained in terms of the electrode polarization of ionic carriers. The field cleaning effect was found to play an important role in the ultra-low-frequency range.<
