Reconstruction of evaporation duct profile from spatial structure of the radar backscatter from the sea surface

The WKB approximation is used to reconstruct the waveguide profile from the mode eigenvalue spectrum. The equations for the complex constants of propagation may be obtained from the radiowave path loss. The method suggested for solving the inverse problem was used to reconstruct the refractive index profile of the evaporation duct. For the present analysis, the experimentally obtained spatial behavior of the radar signal mean level was used. The radar observation technique realized makes it possible without using sophisticated equipment to analyze on a real-time basis the conditions of radiowave propagation near the sea surface. Experimental investigations were performed in the northern regions of the Pacific.<
