Network Resource Management with Distributed Database Systems for Scalable Admission Control

We have designed a network resource control system for large-scale networks, based on a bandwidth broker model, called RA (Resource Agent). The RA provides parameter-based admission control and manages network resources with a database. We have clarified that the concentration of the database access is a performance bottleneck of the RA. We propose “virtual link multi-mapping model,” for distributing load of the database. This model enables the RA to manage network resources with multiple databases. This method is evaluated by simulation and measurement by using a prototype of the RA. This results show that the virtual link multi-mapping model eliminates the performance bottleneck at the database access, and obtains performance scalability.
