Optically injected semiconductor lasers for network transmission and switching

Recent results on optically injected lasers are reviewed in the context of network transmission and all-optical switching. Emphasis is placed on understanding the fundamental physical mechanisms determining the operating conditions for stable injection locking between master and slave lasers. Two-section lasers are found to offer an additional degree of freedom that is capable of giving an enhanced locking region compared to a single-section optically-injected laser.
