Measurement of the 9S level lifetime in francium

We measure the lifetime of the 9S state in francium through its decay to the 7P3/2 state using two photon excitation and time-correlated single-photon counting techniques. We obtain a lifetime of 107.53/spl plusmn/0.94 ns.
