Physical principles of avalanche transistor pulse circuits

THE PURPOSE OF THIS PAPER is to present a simple physical theory which describes with reasonable accuracy the transient behavior of avalanche transistors. The most important single aspect of the theory is the concept of minority carrier charge stored in the base region during the transient period, a concept which simplifies the problem, by permitting time to be eliminated in several important calculations. The relaxation oscillator shown in Figure 1 will be used to illustrate the theory.
