Reduction in the cost of solving an integral equation arising in electromagnetic scattering through the use of group theory

An analysis is given of the use of symmetry groups in reducing the cost of some electromagnetic field calculations. The savings is obtained by reducing the size of a matrix arising in the discretization of an integral equation describing electromagnetic fields induced in penetrable obstacles.
