Mutual Coupling Reduction Using Discrete Complementary Split Ring Resonators

In this study, we examine the use of discrete complementary splitring resonator (CSRR) for mutual coupling reduction for microstrip patch antennas. We show 5dB and 12 dB mutual coupling reduction between patch antennas when 1 and 2 column CSRRs are used. The return loss and radiation pattern are not affected by the use of dCSRRs. This promising structure can be used for mutual coupling reduction between E-plane coupled patch antennas in many antenna array applications.
