Abstract:
Vehicular Ad-hoc Network (VANET) is re-gaining interest due to the demand for advanced applications and services required in autonomous vehicles. VANET is an essential part of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) as they support multihop vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication and networking. Although there are numerous survey papers on VANET research, there are few that takes recent progresses on V2X into consideration. This study surveys and categorizes multihop broadcasting protocols in VANET based on their approaches, and discusses the broadcasting storm problem in the context of recent advances. We also introduce recent studies that may affect future studies of V2V broadcast.
